I started in the band when I was in the 4th grade. It was something new and exciting and a sense of pride as I held my new flute. I continued with band until I graduated high school and during that time I had participated in concert band, marching band, and pep band. It provided me an opportunity to learn how hard work can bring about whatever you are seeking. As we had band every day as a class, I practiced at home daily to learn the techniques and to play well. I also learned discipline and teamwork and a work ethic that included you keep going, even when you are tired and have homework or exams. I was able to experience things and go places I would have never gone as a member of my high school band. We attended Mardi Gras in New Orleans as we marched in a parade, performed at half time at the Peach Bowl, and performed at Sea World, just to name a few.
Do you ever think back about what experience helped shape you into the person you are?
