Book Club
I have wanted to start a book club for a long time but I couldn't really get many interested in joining. I recently started a new job and thought I would ask some that I worked with if they might be interested and lo and behold, some were! We had our initial meeting on the first Saturday of June so we could all meet, as some are people I don't work with, and to decide on our first book. We each wrote down a book and put it in a large bag and had one person draw one out for our first read. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver was chosen and I was ecstatic as that was my pick. I will be leading the discussion for the book club on this selection and busy trying to come up with some great ideas.
We had 6 people show up at the first meeting and I know there are a couple more joining for our first discussion. If any of you are in my area we are meeting at Panera Bread at 10:00 am est on July 7 in Elizabethtown, KY. If you aren't in the area and want to read along with us, I invite you to do so as I will be posting discussion on the blog as well.
To celebrate the first selection, I am giving away a copy of the book. If you would like to enter, please leave a comment below and I will randomly choose a winner on Friday, June 15. If you are in a book club, I would love to hear about in your comment.

The Wheel of Time series
I have mentioned before that I am a huge fan of Robert Jordan and his Wheel of Time series. The last book in the series is projected to come out in October of 2012, with the help of Brandon Sanderson due to the passing of Jordan, and I am getting myself ready for the last book. I have decided that I am going to do a complete read through of the series so that I am ready for the last book when it is on the book store shelves. I thought others might want to join me and we can have a book club type discussion over the books. If you would like to join me, comment below and let me know and we will get this thing started.
I am starting with the prequel-New Spring. I am planning to start it by this weekend and then will begin to post some discussion topics and can't wait to hear what others think.

Online Book Club
I have wanted to belong to a book club for a good while and I have attempted to start one before. However, I have had a hard time finding members that wanted to stick with it or had time to fit one into their busy schedules. I recently posted on facebook that I was starting one and had some responses, yet once I contacted those that said they were interested, all have now backed out except for one person. So I thought that I would post here on my blog to see if there was any interest in an online book club.
Here are the details:
*The group will start in January.
*We will read one book a month.
*We will converse about the book through email. I can set up a chat room for a specific time as well, if there is interest in that.
*Everyone will get to suggest books and the group will vote on the selection to be read next.
*We will read a variety of genres.
Would you like to join? I sure hope so. Please email me at laura.leahj@gmail.com or leave a comment here with your email address to join. Please also send me a suggestion of a book you would like added to our possible reads list. I need suggestions by November 1 so we can get started voting on the January selection.

Book Clubs
I would love to join a book club. I have searched online and locally in hopes of finding a group to join. I did go to a local library for a few sessions of their book club but it had been established for awhile and they didn't seem very receptive to new members. I then tried to start my own and it just seemed that we couldn't get everyone I had asked to join to meet up at a convenient time for all. So, I have been thinking about doing one online. I would post here on my blog about the selection and details and then we can set a time to meet in a chat to do the discussion. I would like to include all genres and the selections would be voted on. Would anyone be interested in joining? If you would, please leave a comment below.
